sony-dvx-800-front.JPGThe other day, a friend of mine called and asked for advice on how to operate her shiny brand-new SONY DVX-800 camera that she bought off the street. Over the phone, my friend’s complaint was that the camera could only record for 1 minute then it stopped. After a lenghtly discussion in which I guided her through the camera menus and because I have never dealt with a tapeless camcorder before, I decided to go and take a look at it hands-on. Here is what I have found.

I immediately googled for “SONY DVX-800″ and found a bunch of them for sale on auction sites. Not being convinced, I then turned to the official Sony website and looked specifically for this model. As I expected, I couldn’t find any reference to it. Presumably, this camcorder is a fake and it’s using the SONY name to increase the sales.sony-dvx-800-case.JPG

Since my friend has already paid for the “Sony camcorder”, I was curious whether it could be used at all. The carrying case looks like a cheap one and did not impress me, however it is functional and well suited for its purpose. Inside I found a USB cable, the power adapter and a CD with software which I honestly did not dare load into my computer.

sony-dvx-800-card.JPGThe camera came with a SanDisk 2.0 GB SD card which seemed great. However, when I inserted the card into my USB card reader, I learned that it was a mere piece of plastic with a few metal contacts attached. There was no flash memory inside and my computer had nowhere to write. To the untrained eye, the card looks almost like the original, but the roughy edges and the light weight are signs of counterfeiting.

The fact that the camcorder is a fake is very easy to spot. All it takes is a little attention and common sense. The Sony logo is nowhere to be found although I turned the camera upside down and looked all over place. The manual is a sheet of paper which is nothing more than an advertisement for the camera priced at 899 euros. Also, the camera menu has poorly drawn icons plus the navigation is awkward, unlike any other Sony device I ever had my hands on.

Looking at the bottom of the camera, I noticed the odd way in which the palm strap was tied to the body (see the picture). Not only this offers little protection in case the camers turns upside down, but this is against the commonly employedsony-dvx-800-back.JPG sense when designing security features for a device. All these defects are nothing compared to what follows: the camera is endowed with a built-in flash which protrudes from the body when a button is clicked, but the flash remains in an oblique position and it is so tiny that I doubt it could shed the light onto something farther than 50 centimeters. Also, the camera has some sort of detachable front LED ring, probably for lighting the scene.

All in all, the camcorder is a fake. There is no DVX-800 on the market and the design and the quality of the device is questionable at best. I suggest you stay away from this and choose wisely on what you spend your money.

[Edit July 31st, 2007] I recently installed a post counter and I am stunned by the number of views this post has. I checked the logs and people reached my blog by searching for DVX-800 and/or SONY, so for some reason there must be a lot of public interest for this fake camera.

    HI GUYS

This camera was recognized by my PC as SYNTEK 1210 camcorder so I am very satisfied about all its functions. The flash go only with remote, the navigation menu is very simple because after you push on/off button you can navigate with arrows:left, right,up and down. For enter you will push the silver button, for exit the mode button. After you have entered for example in digital still camera menu you can push the menu silver button and can navigate with arrows as I describe above.Only my insatisfaction is that this camera cannot see closeup objects (macrophotos). Please tell me if others camera which have a CCD with 0,8 MPixel can
    take macrophotos?

  9. Relu says:

Eugen, la ce concluzie ai ajuns la urma?

  17. greuceanu says:

Hey. I just bought one of those camcorders… I’m not to much into these kind of stuff but i think it’s ok.. it takes good photos, the flash is ok, it can take macros(for loreen it has macro - the smaller lens can be switched to macro), it works more than one minute with aditional memory card. I agree it’s not a sony….by the way..does anyone know how much is it worth because i want to know if i paied to much for her. 150 EUR.???

  18. nestor says:

my boss bought the same load of crap from some guy that said he was in “financial problems” and needed to unload the sony digital video camera for cheap. turns out the damn thing was a “sunplus sca533″ webcam with sony badging on it. the first warning sign for people should be the cheap menus that are on these cameras and the overall sahdy looking thing as a whole.

  19. POPA LEONARD says:

I bought this camera today on street (price:100 dollars).I have two cameras ,too (SONY and JVC).I am satisfied with this “FAKE”SONY DVX-800.Probably,Valer doesn t see to use it !

  20. alex says:

Hello friends.I have this camera.I was payed for it 130 euro form somebody. Is true the card is not good but i have a 1g card how is good.I think that for this price i have a good camera…i can use this like a webcam too.Sorry for my english…Byeee

  21. Valer BOCAN says:

I received several replies to this post in Romanian. Since my intention is to keep the international nature of this blog, I must remind all my readers that replies in any language other than English will not be published. Thank you for understanding.

  22. RaveMan says:

OK, so you have deleted my post … that’s life, no problem, i will re-write it, in english, as good as I can.
One of my co-workers had bought a “sony” video camera, just like the one above. Ha has paid 200 euro ! Seeing the other prices, he has been f*cked over two times then. Of course, the memory card, this time a 4GB piece, is just garbage, no good, just plastic. So he will buy a new memory card, aprox. 50 euro (to be international in the price as well), and some new rechargeable batteries, to replace the fake sh*t that came with the camera. So he will spend in total 70 euro more, adding that to the 200 euro already paid. I guess he could have bought a real sony camera in some store for 300 euro.
My question is that had anyone found some user guide material for this camera ?

  23. Laur says:

the best user guide is the one you made by yourself. try every option from it’s menu. i’ve done same, after my dad done the mistake buying it without asking for any help, me or another person who knows at least the basics in the last era tech. lol. if you don’t have a digital camera, you can use it. but for a cam recorder… neah…i have no zoom. i erased the logo with sony, it’s embarrassing. well.. take care of yourselves on the future. :P

  24. Andreea says:

Hello guys, my father has brought a “SONY” camera just like this one and guess what? It’s NOT working!!! I would like to ask you to tell me what card should I buy for it please!!! Thanks

  25. Simona says:

If I would have read this article last week I would have been happy. Now I’m the “happy” owner of a “Sony” camera.I think I can join your club . At least I payed only 100E for my “Sony” device. Next time I ‘ll be carefull.

  26. Eczploit says:

I have also a camera like this, how can I set it up to be used as a webcam ?

  27. Dan says:

Dose it work with a 2 Gb memory card? can someone please mail me at djtoxxyc@gmail.com

  28. Luisa says:

“sony” dvx 800.. the same story… but every time i try to see my photos on my pc, it’s not workin… “fail to connect device. please try again.” that’s what i get… and i don’t know how to take pictures or record… please someone help me, i paid 150 euro for this and now i try to enjoy it, even if it’s fake… please tell me how to use it people… i can see that many of you do use it at least as a digital camera… i can’t use it at all… maybe it’s the card… but i can’t figure out… any help please..?

  29. Luisa says:

finally i know how to use it… the card was the problem… it’s easy… anyway.. it’s fake… but at least it works :P

  30. Dragos says:

hey .. i m curious , can you please film something and upload here? and some pictures tooked with the chinese fake would be interesting too ..thx !

  31. Tunde says:

hi! the same story,my father bought it. could anybody write to me please what should i do? does it work with a SD card, and anyway can i use it as a video camera? can i record with it?the user guide is shit!

it`s not a bad camera, but i would like to find firmware for it…thanks…

  35. Ricardas and Darius says:

Yeap, Darius’ sister has made right the same mistake… She bought such piece of crap for 100E (with huge discount) from street during her stay in Germany last week. It’s called SONY DV9, but looks identically as that shown above. There was no manual and no memory card. First sign that something is not good was problems getting more info about that model on internet. The quality and functionality are piece of sh.. Other bad sign was realising that the camera window is made for nothing and the picture actually is taken through a small lens bellow it. When connected to PC, computer recognise it as syntec camera not sony.. Greatings from Lithuania.. :)

  36. Arpi says:

I have one! Bad choice. It’s work, but…: 2 pieces 4GB SD card= plastic; Li-ion Pover Pack= 2 AA normal batterys an an oter empty box for battery holder; etc.
Don’t bie on street this kinde of equipment!

  37. Mike says:

Hi, Greetings from Slovakia, I would not believe it to myself if it really did not happen to me. Well, they (gypsies) got me on the street and even though I made some quick scan of it, although having doubts all the time, I was overwhelmed by the price and bargain so I bought it anyway…Fuck, now i regret my 120 Eur. One must admit, the crap really looks good at first sight and the psychology of sale works, especially when you have little time and carefullness.

Please, Can anybody in the world bomb such factories, that produce these unusable craps ? They are terrorists…
I have my lesson now, never ever even let such person, that sell this stuff, approach me..
Be carefull and read about it before you even think of looking at that (unfortunatyly I did it the other way around)

  38. nd4spd says:

    Hello,I am from Roumania,the country of ALL posibilities,and I say this,because almost everything you can find in a market is a fake.I bought a camera from a Mall,obviously,a Sony DVX-800,and i saw it’s a nice camera,and i found it very attractive,only 200 E,for a Sony camera…My bad,I bought it,and when i arrived home,i tried to find a website of exactly what the camera can do,because it’s manual is in german,but…i found topics like this one…

Someone I know just bought a “SONY DVX-801″, which I’m sure is fake as well. After googling, I found two sites advertising a series of similar-looking cameras:

    http://www.focusco.com.tw/
    http://macoya.com/

I also searched for ‘SYNTEC 1210′, and I found the site of a company called ‘Syntec Semiconductor’:
    http://www.stk.com.tw
There they have a chip called STK1210:
http://www.stk.com.tw/product-01.asp (just select ‘STK1210′ in the drop down box)

  41. bernard says:

I forgot to mention the following picture:

what a fake, a guy from Republica Moldova tried to sell me this shit, he sad that it is an original sony.

  52. Franzy says:

    Hi All,
Ive just recived thislittle fake something…DVX-800
We got it as a “gift” because we bought some kitchenware for a nice amount of money.
    So:
we had a 4GB Sandisk memcard with it: of course it was aint nothing but a a piece of plastic…
The supplied software was more or less OK, however - as Luisa said before - we had a constant error message when one of the sw tried to connect to the camera
We were able to use the camera (only 30 mp, because of the limited internal (4M) flash ram) itself and we could make some photos as well (7 pieces, 2M pixel).
    The remote controller was OK.

  53. donny says:

it works with my own 512MB sd. i’m nop pleased by her LCD because the wiew is to black.

  54. Steve says:

Sony never use SD cards, they use sony memory stick don’t know how u can make that mistake

  55. Tomy says:

    Hello.

I bought this shit, under different name: MX JVC DVX-801, but dont get any user manual.
Can someone please upload manual or tell, where to get it?

  56. Will says:

Well I too was duped into buying a fake Camera, I thought I was purchasing a “Panasonic” DVX-801 however I did manage to find the actual manufactuerer of the camera, it is a company called Cansonic and the website for that particular model is: http://www.cansonic.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=2
Additionally you can download the user manual (mine came with one just missing the front cover with the companies name on it) and the driver software simply by clicking on the RMA/Support tab on that page.
I feel very lucky because I don’t feel I got completely ripped off, it seems to be a fairly decent camera so far, and I managed to talk the guy down to the same price they are asking for it on the website. Hopefully you all have the same luck with your Camera’s
    WV

  57. bebe says:

i need a driver cd instal for my cam Sony because my cd is brocke

  58. oana says:

hello, my husband bought also a fake Sony, but I manage to make it work even without a manual, it’s not so hard once you manage to change the language in english. With the MODE button and the arrows you can choose to review, to used it like a camcorder or like a foto camera (still camera) etc, the OK button is the silver one on the right-up side. After you choose you can refine your picture pressing the MENU button and with the arrows.
I wouldn’t bought it, but I myself learned my lesson 6-7 years ago when I bought a fake parfum and I learned one thing: PAY ATTENTION TO THE QUALITY OF DETAILS. So, in this case, even if you don’t know nothing about camcorders pay attention at the quality of the pictures.
Any way, it can be used and you don’t have to fill bad because the memories that you can record counts more.
    P.S. sorry for my english

  59. monkey says:

well at least ‘m not the only asshole who bought it;)it makes me feell a little bit better.i got MX JVC DVX-801,it kinda works, but not really…probablly it will work when i’ll manage how to use it exactly(i got a little hope after reading some of you comments:) i guess we all have to make some stupid shit so we don’t repeat it again…

  60. Another one says:

  61. aristos says:

Today my father announced that he had a great deal ! He bought a SONY DVX - 801 mini DV cam just to record his grantchildrens in a good price (he didn’t say anything about the price). Trying to operate it he noticed that there was not a tape slot and that the upper ens could not operate. So he called and asked me to find an operation manual over the internet. Googling for SONY DVX - 801 I didn’t find any manuals but I found this site and now I have to find a way to tell him the truth.

  71. susan says:

My husband bought the camera at a truckstop in LA for $160 usd. When the guy showed him how it recorded, there was no problem. Well it only works for 1 min then it states the battery is dead. There were 2 batteries with charger in case. When I go to charge the batteries, the “green” light goes on showing it is charged. I found out today it was a fake, and also found the Focusco website, that sells the camera and accessories. I thought that the batteries or chargers were made and thought of replacing them. Does anyone think this will help, or should we just cut our losses, and buy a new camera?

  72. chaker says:

  73. Ted Hoofar says:

Thanks for posting this article. My daughter received one of these (labeled “Panoramic”) as a gift. It’s worth every penny. The video quality is terrible, the sound is worse. The big lens on top is only for the eyepiece. Apparently the only means of focus is the slide ring around the actual lens underneath. The battery lid already broke and is now held on with tape. We put a 2GB SD card in it and it works.

  74. Mickael says:

Got ripped off with this one too 160$ CAD. These bastards are on our side of the border now! Go back to wherever you came from scammers!

  75. Travis says:

hey I have the same camera but its not a dvx- 800 its a dv55f but its just as you described it looks exactly the same too and came with a card that didnt work but after i got a new one it worked fine

  76. Burns says:

Probably made in China or Taiwan. They’re the biggest counterfeiters in the world.

  77. Tosha says:

Hi! I live in Birmingham Alabama and my husbamd and I almost got taken too. We pulled into a gas station when a young man pulled in next to us. He said he had digital camcorders for sale. At first my husband told him we were not interested. But the young man continued to explain how he worked at Best Buy (an electronic store) and was trying to sell the remaining 3 of 10 camcorders he stole from work. This guy was good. After a convincing spill on how he needed to suport his daughter and how the camcorder sold for $799 (US dollars) at Best Buy we asked to see it. He showed us a very nice looking Sony camcorder that was charged and appeared to work. It even came with a bag, CD and some other stuff he mentioned. We were sold! Now here is where it got interesting. My husband had the charged camcorder the man was showing in his hand. We are both in our car and the young man is standing outside of our passenger door. I have a new camcorder wraped in bubble wrap and the bag in my hand. We give the guy $80. The young man takes the money and asks for the charged camecorder my husband has back. My husband tells the guy that he wants to keep the camcoder that is charged, this way he will know it works. The guy explains he needs the charged one back to show to people in order to sell the 2 camcorders he has left. I say ok and begin to take the bubble wrap off the new one he handed me. The guy gets really upset and does not want me to take the plastic off. He insists there is no need to remove the plastic becasue it looks just like the one my husband has in his hand. I only wanted to remove the plastic in order to play with my new toy but his agressive actions toward me wanting to remove the plastic made both my hudband and my alarms go off. He was so hell bent toward me not removing the plastic he handed me the money back and asked for both camcorders back. We left the gas station knowing that his behavior gave him up. We knew it was a scam but how did it work since we never got to remove the plastic for a closer look at the camcorder. After googling what we thought might have been a scam we now know for sure it was. Even before reading all the clues to look for I noticed the pricing was on the camera itself under tightly wraped bubble wrap. If youv’e ever shopped in an electronic store or even a store that sells electronics you know only the outside of the box is priced not the equipment itself; especially not taged under bubble wraped so tight he could take it from me before I could get it off. Moral of story- If it sounds like a good deal chances are it is’nt.

    Hi to all
Poor cheap deal hunters…..the perfect target for those villains…. There will be always a chance 4 one to get the sting and that’s the cruelty of life: there are more dumb people than wise…. Sad, isn’t it? It’s like in soccer: they want it more (the victory, the money, etc)
As long as many are posting here and still insist to use that piece of sh**, I must admit that stupidity is evenly and generously spread across the world. Since the bloody internet is at hand, I guess a ”before-buy” web surf is mandatory… Even so, a post here to enlarge the list of “honor” and shout: “look, I’m a fool too…” I believe it’s hilarious….

  82. sil says:

hello i also bought a camera sony dvx 750 in the street hier in antwerpen for 85euro. i dont know if it works well…but no manuals…i am sure it is fake….shitt!!!

I just knew it. The guy who wrote that he is not the only creep made me feel better. I also bought DVX 700 R
or whatever it is although I know a lot of things about the cameras. The Gipsy in Greece just made a good trick.
I am laughing now 60 euros is not a big money. China bustards and their gipsy friends.
Conclusion: Never and ever do not buy things on the street!!!
Sorry for you and me friends!

  85. jan says:

    Hallo
I bought too this kind of camera today at the last day of the international electronic exhibition ( IFA Berlin) in Berlin, Germany. I bought it from a Dealer which sold all things at the end off the last day of the big exhibition. The label says Focusco DVX 850. I found this Camera now under this link: http://www.cansonic.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=27. Ok The whole thing is working. All Cable are inclusive, Batterie, Cd and without SD card ( i got told when I bought it). With my own sd Card i had from before, its working. But…. i realised after couple minutes that the video quality and the Sound quality isn´t very well. The dealer told me he will even send per mail an german manual. But it doesn´t make sense to by cheap electronic stuff. Actually i wasn´t ripped off, but for this spezial price for the whole package ( 50 Euros) which is ok, I have a camera now, which I am not happy with, because of the Quality. If i can help with a manual in englisch or german or tipps how to use it, mail me. Mailadress: gutreisen@googlemail.com . DONT BY CHEAP ELECTRONIC Best wishes Jan

  89. Leanne says:

I got the Sony DVX-700 (R) a few months ago & thought, wow how cool a nice cam corder camera! Boy was I wrong! I started to think something wasnt right when the screen veiwer was too dark to see anything even when there was plenty of light in my home. I tried to go through the owners manual thinking it would show me how to fix the problem, but it didnt. Well I thought maybe its just more of an outdoor style camera or something, until I took it to a big name pawn shop & they wouldnt even except it beacause it was a FAKE! camcorder. The price sticker on it even shows $ 589.00 I mean get real! So my advice is deffinatly if it seems like a great deal, its more than likely too good to be true. Watch out for this model and others like it!

  90. Dan says:

  98. Sean Costello says:

It’s results like this which is why people should research what camera they want to buy and actually get it from a store that sells the camera and other products, not buying it from a random person off the street.

  99. JULIA says:

  108. Kaj says:

    Hi,

Offcourse you know that when you buy something “on the street” you have to be very carefull. But what when your parents aged 70 buy something like this on a organized trip where they sell all kinds of stuff? Yes.. you try to help them to keep the damage as limited as possible. So I’m looking for a manual for them. Can anyone tell me where to find this? Their DVX is called OLIMPIK.

Nice thing do.. my mother didn’t know about battery packs and she ripped of the white foil.. Now she has two normal batteries who do work… LOL!

  109. nina says:

  113. Zoltan says:

My father though to surprise me with this Sony DVX-900 camcorder. I know, if present, than see the deed, but wtf, i was upset at first place as i dont like such presents, but prefer to buy my own staff, and i suspected this isnt from a regular store. Anyway, didnt pay attention much till now, 3 weeks later a vacation coming up and i thought to surprise them with a video record of it. Guess who got the surprise!!! This piece of shit looks anything i expect from a camera, but had to admit even me forgot to think much first about why SD card in a Sony…of course, doesnt make a sense. LCD is just damn black. Called father, he said they tried, and worked fine. My ass. Anyway, played some more, find the fake rechargeable battery, tried to install the software what doesnt install, and after some seach to manula i find this site with a 100 of ppl who has got the same fake shit!!
Of course, this must me the new model, comes with a nice 8GB SD card…that is, the text only, no memory. good thing it can record a whole 1 min!! for the internal. And yes, that strap and flash sucks. I really dont know who and how cheated on my father, but i wish to thow this piece of shit to their face, as i know my parents deed were good, only their common sense lacked, thus got cheated out of money what they dont have too much! dont know the price, but any price is too high!!

  114. BP says:

It’s sold under Olimpic DVX-900 too, here in Slovenia, EU. I have got one for free, because the owners didn’t knew why it is not working. I quickly stumbled onto this site. Thanks, you saved me a lot of time busting my head.

    thanks…

  116. TkUsa says:

Yay! I just got this camera too over here in the United States for Christmas. What a relief when i open the box saw my brand new “sony HDEXPS”. Right away felt really fishy about the product. The lens was loose. The product looked like it had been used and had paint chipped off it. the sony logo was obviously glued on. The main sony logo looked like someone just took a picture of the word sony that was printed on a piece of paper. and like everyone else, the mem. card was fake and only recorded up to 1 min on the internal memory. Terriable camera at best. I bought 100 dollar picture cameras that were better than this one.

My dad works at the local flee market and one day a strange white guy walked up to him with some sob story of how he had to sell these camera’s. Well my dad, (being a compassionate pastor) decided to go ahead and help the guy out and buy two of them for 400 dollars. He thought he was getting a deal because the camera’s were “priced taged” at “$789.99″ Sadly, I had to tell my dad the mistake he made. I know he was disappointed, but at least lessons learned…expensive lesson. I hate the fact that these scammers are ripping off the folks who are already poor and are trying to earn a honest living. No decency.

  117. BRENDA says:

I ALSO PURCHASED A FAKE DVX 801 THIS ONE IT SAYS TO BE A PANASONIC AND CONTACTING THE REAL PANASONIC COMPANY, I FOUND OUT IT WAS A FAKE. THANKS A LOT! THAT JUST MADE MY CHRISTMAS MORE MISERABLE.

  118. Bryan McCoy says:

I have been looking at a Sony DVX 801 in a pawn shop. I tried to get them down to $50 from $100 out the door with tax paid. It would not fire up but I decided to look on line for the camera. All I found was this site with Sony on the side. It like others comes with 2 batteries and a case it had a blue looking card when I examined it briefly. I was gald to read this site it looks like a Sony when you are not observing closely. I intend to go look at it and tell the man behind the counter he has a fake as far as I can tell. It does say Sony DVX 801 on the side instead of 800. I guess they could print whatever they want. Its good to check out what you are buying and at least fire it up and see what she will do. I would have bought the camera at $50 and would be crying I don’t like cheap stuff anyway.
    Bryan

  119. Hans says:

erm… wtf!!!! i’m from austria, and one day my dad … so i got the same cam called “olimpic DVX-900″. Yeah, hmmm the cam is shit. but i can take photos and make videos in bad quality and my stuff is saved somehow on my SD-Card, but when i put my card into my computer there is nothing. why? Does anybody know how to connect this thing with my computer? Is it possible to use this thing as webcam?

  120. johnisout says:

I almost bought one of these fake “Sony” camcorders. But then I came to this site. I’m so glad I did. The girl selling the camera wanted to meet on a street corner! Thanks for all the posts regarding this issue!

  121. Alan says:

I’m in Los Angeles.I saw one of these cameras at a yard sale out here in Burbank California today. It was a Sony DVX 700R.I’m no expert on these, but it looked suspecious to me.The guy wanted only $25 for it.I offered him $10 and he said no.It was very lightweight and seemed like a piece of junk.Good thing I didnt buy it.

  122. Big Tony says:

First let me thank each and every one of you who have added your comments here. You have made me feel much better about my loss and am honored to join your ranks. Today at a Swap Meet I bought a SONY DVX-700 like new and followed the very same trail that led all of us to Valor’s Web Log. Fortunately I only paid 20 USD (15 Euro). Looked great but nothing else. Never again!

  123. LUIS says:

I got one of these fake sony, but the disc was missing, I did some digging and found that it is made by Syntek and it is part of panasonic,,, the old sanyo factory. it is been sold by www.macoya.com downloaded the software and still not working
I had it working as a web cam till I upgraded to the las xpsp3 and it died on me….
I lost 500 dls on this garbaje…… I am going to take it a part,,,,, see what I can find
    bb

  124. LUIS says:

I finally took it a part…There is a piece of metal to make it heavy,,,,,,,,,ridiculous…the large lens has no function,,just to make it look nice, the small lens is the one that makes it work. no names on circuit boards and very cheap components, I guess the only nice part is the swivel screen, the sound is mono, and there are no other conectors on the inside. the volume control on the back is very weak and mae break easy, too much work on the shell, So far I found panasonic, kawasaki, sanyo, components,
This looks like this camara was a cancelled proyect from a hi end factory and it’s been sold out ,,,,Haaa last minute,,,,
Syntec made the programming and the drivers, usb plattform. but they are not backing the product, I used it as a USB storage.
And as a web cam, the picture is horrible I will make my computer a Kamikase and install the drivers,,,,,,,,,, If you do not hear of me…is bad……… mal ware …….unrecognised by microsoft or windows if this machine wont start again somebody contact me in myspace at www.myspace.com/dlrvm2 if you do not see any more post here,,,, wish me luck…

  125. LUIS says:

All works so far but as a web cam it is not any more, The memory function works as usb storage, somthing was instaled on the computer but I do not know what,,, the message when I installed is that the program did maintenance,,,,, of whatt?
I have no idea that this will be so………..
The only real use that I have for this is as mini memory car reader to transfer files and music in my cell phone, have to try loading files to see what works my model came as Sony DVX 700R Conected on Apple machine and it only works as USB storage
I got taken, and now I learned my lesson,,,,, Lol I guess that I deserved this for buying cheap……
Good bye from Mexico ps… I left the metal ring out so is lighter and took the sony sign out,,,,
It is not SONY it’a a FONY

  126. Costi says:

Hi! Today a coworker brought his new SONY DVX-800 to the office for reasons of a disconnected cable. I was first amazed that the thing was heavy enough and had the shape of a mini-DVX (mini-casette) camera but there was no loading mechanism… Furthermore, when the camer was off, you could see through the optical visor… Another bad… I disassembled the contraption and found a large piece of metal cast affixed with screws on one of the casing walls. Hence, the weight… The actual picture was taken by a small webcam-like thingy under the main optical visor… What a scam! Of course, the 4GB SD card that came with it was just cheap plastic with a few metal strips on it…. My colleague would still not believe that it was a fake untill I showed him the Sony site and the fact that the one and only Sony product having DVX in its name was a car DVD changer… Told him he sould know better than to buy such stuff from the street. He paid 400 ROL (approx. 100 Euros) for a plastic box that with the webcam inside might have been 10-12 Euros worth…

  127. THE REAL MACOYA says:

It’s a fake alright. If you take off the plastic Sony logo it’ll probably say MACOYA. tHE MODEL IS mACOYA DVX 700R, SELLING FOR $50.00 BUCKS ON CRAIGSLIST ,PORTLAND. sORRY FOR YOUR FRIEND .iT ALMOST GOT ME TOO

  128. Valy says:

I’ve just paid less than 40 Euro (150 lei) for “Sony” DVX 800 (not new, and 1GB SD card). It’s working. I use it, but for next one probably I will pay not more than 10 EURO. I need driver for web camera mode (Syntek USB camera driver)

  129. Minchev says:
